Health And Safety Policy
Highbury Cleaners Health and Safety Policy Statement
Highbury Cleaners is committed to maintaining the highest standards of health, safety, and welfare for all employees, clients, visitors, contractors, and members of the public who may be affected by our cleaning activities. The purpose of this policy is to set out our approach to managing health and safety in a planned, systematic, and responsible way across all cleaning services we provide.
We recognise that effective health and safety management is essential to the success and reputation of our business and forms a core part of the professional cleaning services we deliver. We seek to prevent accidents, injuries, and work-related ill health by identifying hazards, assessing risks, and implementing appropriate control measures.
Management Responsibilities
The management of Highbury Cleaners has overall responsibility for ensuring that this Health and Safety Policy is implemented, monitored, and reviewed regularly. Managers will provide clear leadership, allocate appropriate resources, and promote a positive safety culture throughout the organisation.
Management duties include ensuring that safe systems of work are developed and followed for all cleaning tasks, that appropriate equipment and materials are provided and maintained, and that all employees receive suitable training, instruction, and supervision. Managers will investigate incidents, review risk assessments, and implement any necessary improvements promptly.
Employee Responsibilities
All employees have a legal and moral duty to take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by their work. Employees of Highbury Cleaners are required to follow all safety procedures, work instructions, and training provided, and to use equipment and cleaning products in a safe and responsible manner.
Employees must report any accidents, incidents, near misses, hazards, or defective equipment to their supervisor or manager without delay. Staff are expected to cooperate fully with management in the implementation of this policy and in any health and safety investigations or improvements.
Risk Assessment and Safe Systems of Work
Highbury Cleaners will identify the hazards associated with our cleaning activities and undertake suitable and sufficient risk assessments. These assessments will consider, among other things, the use of cleaning chemicals, manual handling tasks, working at height, the use of machinery and electrical equipment, lone working, and the interaction with clients and the public on-site.
Based on these assessments, we will develop and implement safe systems of work and method statements, ensuring that control measures are practical, clearly communicated, and understood by all staff. Risk assessments will be reviewed at regular intervals and whenever there are significant changes to our operations, equipment, locations, or working practices.
Training, Instruction, and Supervision
Highbury Cleaners will provide appropriate health and safety training and information to all employees, including new starters, temporary staff, and contractors working under our control. Training will cover general health and safety awareness, company procedures, safe use of cleaning products and equipment, manual handling techniques, personal protective equipment, emergency procedures, and any site-specific requirements.
Supervisors and managers will ensure that staff are competent to carry out their duties safely and will provide ongoing instruction, support, and refresher training as needed. Additional training will be provided when new equipment, processes, or cleaning methods are introduced.
Use of Chemicals and Equipment
We will ensure that all cleaning products and substances are assessed for their potential health and safety risks and that appropriate control measures are in place. Employees will receive clear instructions on the correct dilution, use, storage, and disposal of chemicals, and must always follow manufacturer guidance and company procedures.
All equipment used by Highbury Cleaners, including vacuums, floor machines, and access equipment, will be maintained in a safe condition, inspected regularly, and used only by trained personnel. Any defective or damaged equipment must be taken out of use and reported immediately.
Personal Protective Equipment
Highbury Cleaners will provide suitable personal protective equipment where risks cannot be adequately controlled by other means. Depending on the task, this may include items such as gloves, eye protection, masks, and protective footwear. Employees are required to use the equipment provided, care for it properly, and report any loss or damage.
Accidents, Incidents, and Emergency Procedures
All accidents, incidents, and near misses arising from our cleaning activities must be reported and recorded in accordance with company procedures. Highbury Cleaners will investigate these events, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
We will ensure appropriate emergency arrangements are in place for fire, first aid, evacuations, and spill response. Employees will be informed of site-specific emergency procedures and must follow the instructions of appointed persons, supervisors, and relevant on-site contacts at all times.
Welfare, Wellbeing, and Occupational Health
Highbury Cleaners recognises the importance of employee welfare and wellbeing. We will take reasonable steps to prevent work-related ill health, including musculoskeletal disorders from manual handling and repetitive tasks, respiratory issues from exposure to substances, and stress-related conditions. Workloads, schedules, and methods will be reviewed to reduce unnecessary strain and fatigue.
Consultation and Continuous Improvement
We are committed to consulting with employees on matters affecting their health and safety and encouraging feedback on how our procedures operate in practice. Suggestions for improvements to working practices, equipment, or training will be considered and, where appropriate, implemented.
This Health and Safety Policy will be reviewed regularly to ensure it remains relevant and effective in light of operational changes, feedback from staff and clients, developments in best practice, and any changes in applicable legal requirements. Highbury Cleaners expects all employees and those working on our behalf to support the implementation of this policy and to contribute to a safe, healthy, and professional working environment.
